Under US patent No. 1,187,218 lies a particularly humorous rifle, designed by one Jones Whister and officially filed on the 15th March 1916, the rifle had a curved barrel that would –
Deflect the projectile at an angle to the longitudinal line of the firearm

As you can imagine, this would only injure the user or worse even the person testing the rifle, all this is made even more curious because it is believed he patented this rifle sensing the USA would enter the great war a few years later.
He stated the rifle was made to be used in the trenches, complete with periscope. Lol.
