Most of us enjoy speed for what it is – a thrilling ride, perhaps in a fast car or speedboat. The official one mile ( 1.6 Km ) land-speed record is a rather zippy 1,227.985 km/h. It is held by British driver Andy Green and his superfast car, the aptly named Thrust SSC. Two jet engines gives the vehicle 22,680 kg of thrust – enough for the car to become the first to break the sound barrier. That easily beats the speed record on water – held by the hydroplane Spirit Of Australia, at 556km/h.Thrust
